A fine morning it was at Main Beach. Lifeguard tryouts were just about to begin. This, I think, was the warmest morning I have witness for a lifeguard tryout. I left the beach at 9:45 AM and it was already to hot. And the water was somewhere in the 60s.
You almost want to say the weather made the tryouts to easy.
But it's NEVER to easy.
The physical tryouts consists of three swims. First is out to the water buoy and over to bird rock and back. The second is 100 yard dash down the beach then into the water swimming to the water buoy then returning to the start line. The third is a dash to the water buoy and back.
If you pass all three then, just maybe, the hard work begins - training to be a Laguna Beach Lifeguard.
