KFC here in Laguna closed it's door last week. Why did they close? No one knows for sure except our own Patch.com.
Patch tells us in one line why they think KFC closed then goes on in a long and boring explanation of how bad the food was at the KFC. According to their scientific data KFC food could cost us 8 years of life. WOW! The reporter, Rich Kane, goes on and on in disgusting detail on how bad KFC really is.
Interesting. Never a mention BEFORE KFC closed. Only AFTER KFC closes does the reporter tells us we lost 8 years of our happy lives because we eat at KFC.
The real story about KFC is WHY it closed. That should have been the reporters goal not bad food.
Is this story an example of news reporting at Patch.com?
Is there an Editor at Patch.com?
And the story was under their News banner AND their Opinion banner. Which is it Patch.com, News or Opinion? Can't be both.
And Rich, there will never be another Franchise fast-food store in Laguna. We banned them years, make that decades, ago. So forget Inn-and-Out.
Here's the story at Patch.com.
A lot of work will be going in the coming months. Here's a list provided by the City.
Circle Way Storm Drain and Steps – The City will begin construction next week on the Circle Way Storm Drain and Steps project. The project will include a new 42” diameter storm drain, reconstruction of the steps to the beach, new irrigation, and all new landscaping. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. Circle Way, which is a one way street, will be completely closed at the top of the steps to the beach for the duration of the project. The street will be temporarily converted to a two way street to facilitate ingress and egress on each side of the road closure.
Main Beach Sewer Lift Station – Work will begin the week of September 12th on construction of a new, subterranean sewer lift station on Main Beach. The work will continue through May 2012. The basketball courts will be closed beginning in mid-October.
Laguna Canyon Road Resurfacing – Caltrans will begin resurfacing of Laguna Canyon Road between Forest Avenue and the toll road the week of September 12th. The work is scheduled to be completed in early November. Most of the work will occur at night. Some work will take place during the day between Forest Avenue and Canyon Acres Drive, where there are fewer conflicts with businesses.
Laguna Canyon Road Widening – The County of Orange will be adding a second outbound traffic lane on Laguna Canyon Road at its intersection with El Toro Road. The work will take place during the day and is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
North Coast Highway Sidewalks – Caltrans will begin replacement of broken sections of sidewalk on North Coast Highway right after Labor Day. The work is expected to be done by the end of October.

And yes that's the owner of the big, black, ugly thing.
When you see a setup like this it's really hard to ignore it.
The owner thought I should.
I didn't.

The big surf combined with high tide kept forcing the beach goers to back away from the beach. Some ignored the waves and payed the price of getting their stuff washed out to sea. Almost.
Laguna Beach: Main Beach
Surf was good but there was something about the rocks where they would be surfing and so the Brooks Street Surfing Contest was cancelled once again probably for the year.

If you want to see the big surf, if it shows up, get down to the beach at least a hour before high tide. Maybe even a hour and half. So today that would be between 11AM and 11:30AM.
Suggested beaches would be Brooks St, Thalia St., and Rockpile beach.
Photo was taken from Rockpile beach steps.

Big surf for the next couple of days.
This means mucho seaweed.
This means the beach is red flaged. Red means no one in the water.
This means we will probably have the Brooks Street Surfing Contest Saturday. That's my guess. The organizers will not make it offical until Saturday morning inspection of the surf.
