Oh Boy Is This Going To Be Fun Or What?

Laguna Beach: PCH DowntownThis just in from the office of the City Manager, Ken Frank:

Coast Highway Resurfacing – The Caltrans schedule for slurry sealing Coast Highway has changed again. Since they have fallen behind schedule, they are going to jump into the Downtown area next week to get done with this area before Thanksgiving. They will then move back to the south part of town. With this schedule change there will be three projects going on in the Downtown area that will certainly create some traffic problems. The Third Street Retaining Wall project closes the downhill side of Third Street. That diversion combined with the Downtown fiberoptic installation and the slurry seal blocking of side streets onto Coast Highway will test the patience of many and might require some Police direction during peak times.

Grab a coffee from Scandia and settle in on PCH in the downtown area and enjoy the fun.

The above photo is a normal morning on PCH through Laguna. Could next week be Laguna's perfect storm of traffic congestion. Remember it's free.

Now He Tells Us

Laguna Beach: Fiberoptic CableOn Monday a crew started digging up PCH. They were also seen marking up Glenneyre St and downtown. Now Ken Frank tells it like it is, or something to that effect.

Citywide Fiberoptic InstallationNext G Networks is installing some backbone conduit for fiberoptic communications cable at various locations. This week they are working on Coast Highway in South Laguna. They needed to get that work done before Caltrans does the final slurry seal of the road. Next week they will be working through the Downtown area. Most of the installation is done by boring. The work in the Downtown will be done before the middle of the month. There are utility markings all over the pavement in the Downtown that will be removed by the contractor when they are done.
Ken stop giving us completion dates because you, I, and the rest of the world know they're meaningless. Then again if the contractor makes parking at Zinc difficult then the stuff will hit the fan otherwise you will told to buck up and take it.

My guess is that they're crawling towards the Verizon building at Broadway and Beach.

They're Still Here

Laguna Beach: Homeless FloatI'm taking bets on how many more days they stay anchored out there. They haven't moved since last week. It's now week two.

Is Normalcy In Our Future?

Laguna Beach: Found ObjectsDelays in completing Camp Inamuck (Temporary Homeless Shelter at the ACT V parking lot.) No solution for a permanent shelter. And the homeless built shelters at Camp Runamuck (Main Beach and Heisler Park) getting bigger and bigger everyday.

What's normal? Just askin'.

Trying Something Different

I was going to say 'Trying Something New' but Adobe Flash isn't new. For me to create Flash web pages now that's new.

I've been trying out Adobe's Lightroom program. Don't ask me about the program because I really don't know. Adabe made the beta for Lightroom 3 available to download and install so I'm giving it a try.

One of it's abilities is to create Flash web pages. Now all of Adobe Photoshop applications, which Lightroom is one, has some ability to create Flash pages but this is still a first for me.

I put together a group of photos I took during the Plein-Air Quick Draw competition on Saturday, October 17, 2009. Their are no captions - yet. If it works for you then enjoy. If it fails in anyway I would appreciate an email at editor@lagunabeat.com.

Walk The Beach But Don't You Dare Stop

Laguna Beach: Great ViewJust one question for our city council: How are you going to walk the beach with that foot in your month? The council is always reacting to problems but NEVER thinking the problem through. Make us all suffer, including the police who have to enforce the new NO Stopping at night law for the Laguna beaches. I'm not even going to bother with the link to the newspaper stories. We all know what's going on. Hello ACLU.

For How Long?

Laguna Beach: Runamuck HarborI didn't realize that the sail boat in yesterday's post was the same one I photographed last week and the same one I photographed this morning and shown here. You realize, don't you, that they have a potty on board and the potty tank has to be emptied. And you realize that if they empty the potty tank where it is currently anchored then there goes Main Beach, poop and all.

First Repair It Then Dig It Up

Laguna Beach: More HolesCaltrans has delayed, again, the finish coat of slurry on PCH. That hasn't prevented crews from digging up the highway.

So Mr City Manager what the hell is going on? You are in charge of this city, aren't you?

Runamuck Harbor

Laguna Beach: Runamuck HarborIs this legal? Can you anchor off-shore and beach your dinghy? I guess if you can dream it you can do it.

One Possible Solution Is To Lock It All Down

Laguna Beach: Bowling GreenWant to keep Laguna pure? Lock it all down. Have you ever stepped onto the bowling green? See it works.
