It's Unanimous 'Whereas' Is Banned From All City Documents.

Laguna Beach: Single-Use BagsThe City Council voted unanimously to ban the word 'Whereas' from the city. The word shall no longer be used by the city and by all businesses within city limits. Whereas the only nay sayer was the city attorney. Apparently you can't create a legal document with 'Whereas'.

So what caused this turn of events? The council all agreed that the straw that broke the Whereas back was the proposal to ban single-use bags.

Everyone agreed that the Ban Single-Use Bags was OK Whereas there were just too many Whereas in The Whereas document.

The council told the Ban Single-Use Bags Laguna to rewrite the proposal and leave out any use or reference to Whereas.

Note: This is satire and not to be taken seriously. As for the city council you can assume they're satire come to life.

The Ban Single-Use ordinance was put together by the Laguna Beach Visitors Bureau. It is a real document. Now why would they care one way or the other? Whereas the bureau is suppose to promote tourism not be a pain in my single-use bag. Your city helps fund the bureau. Is this a proper use of city funds?

20% Drop In Parking Stickers Sold

Laguna Beach: Parking StickersThis is the city's reasoning:

Fewer Parking Stickers – This last year, we sold 20% less parking stickers. This is a huge drop. Part of the decline may be due to our more stringent enforcement effort to ensure that non-City residents are not purchasing the permits. Even so, for whatever reason there seems to be a general decline in people purchasing the permits.
You notice that they make no effort to catch people putting the stickers on out-of-state vehicles?

This is my reasoning:

This city has become full of poeple living here on a part time basis. Because of this they register their vehicles in the state with the cheapest costs. California is not a cheap state to register a vehicle so we see a lot of out-of-state vehicles. Arizona, Nevada are the two popular ones. Putting a city sticker on an out-of-state vehicle makes it easy to spot and I, and many others, will report you to the CHP using their CHEATERS web page (See link on the column to the right.) So they aviod getting the stickers.

Not to worry. I now photograph ALL cars with out-of-state regristrations. Then if a vehicle shows up again in say 60 days I will report it to the CHP.

I love digital cameras. It makes this process so easy.

This is my reasoning number 2:

Everybody is taking the bus.

It's Always Cooler Here

Laguna Beach: Noon Main BeachWater Temp: 74

The beach is hot but it's NEVER as hot as where you're sitting. Get down here for sunset and grab a Frappuccino from Starbucks, a hamberger from Hennessey's Tavern, and a six-pack from Ralph's.

Then head to your favorite Laguna beach and enjoy the cool breeze off the ocean and the pleasant sound of a beer being opened.

There's nothing better.

PS: The first of four Sunset Serenades will be presented at Picnic Beach in Heisler Park starting at 4 5:30 PM.

Oh My The Council Did Make A Decision Tuesday Night

Laguna Beach: Lifeguard HeadquartersThe council apparently approved the larger of two proposed plans for the Lifeguard headquarters. I say apparently because this is the seventh set of plans presented to the council for approval and NOT the first to be approved. Will this be the lucky seven? Only time will tell. There are still forces that oppose any building at the current headquarters location. The Inn at Laguna Beach has always said that it will oppose ANY building below it's hotel. I don't think that has changed. Now the back room deals start.

Let There Be Big Crowds With Fat Wallets.

Laguna Beach: Walking The BeachThis is not the way to greet visitors to Laguna Beach. They park their cars approach the parking meter and a voice, sounding strangely like our city manager, states that we, the parking meters, will take any viable credit card. And thank-you for parking in Laguna Beach. Ka-ching, ka-ching.

Secret for you visiters to Laguna. There is free, all day, parking at the Forest/Laguna Canyon parking lot.

So save your money for food and other items in our fair city. I thank-you, and the merchants of Laguna Beach also say thanks. On the other hand Ken Franks, city manager, it not happy about this free parking we are handing out. He loves to find empty places where he can install that latest in little greedy parking meters.

You Can't Get Cheaper Than The Owner Of This Piece Of Junk

Laguna Beach: CHEATERIf you can't afford to pay to register your vehicle in the state where you live then you can't afford the piece of crap. Put it on a trailer and haul it back to Oregon.

Notice the Laguna Beach sticker above the exhaust on the left of the picture. Yes they live in Laguna and have Oregon plates on the car.

Someone let the owner know that I reported this CHEATER to the CHP via their special web page.

There Is Only One Crowd In This Town

Laguna Beach: Monument PointThat is the crowd that is waiting for the council to make a decision, any decision. The longer the council stalls the bigger the crowd gets. Or is it the city manager that can't make a decision? After all the council will follow the city manager, lock-step, right over the cliff.

Cattle call anyone?

Stupid Is, Stupid Does.

Laguna Beach: Stuck TruckThis truck got stuck on the 3rd Street hill and needed assistance getting to the top. That's not the best part. It's what was behind the truck. First time for everything. 40 years and never saw anyone this stupid.

Laguna Beach: Stuck Truck

More Time. More Time. More Time. More Time. And So It Goes.

Laguna Beach: Homeless at Rockple RestroomThe council wants more time to study the homeless problem. Do you think that's why they're homeless to begin with? Politians just can't make important decisions at ANY level of govenment. Be it city, state, or federal. Then the corporations take over control.

How Far Into Their Agenda Did The Council Get?

Laguna Beach: Picnic Beach and Sea GullsAnyone go to the council meeting last night? Maybe you watched it on COX Cable? Have any opinions on what happened? I didn't go. But then I'm a cynic and cynics don't have to go anywhere. We already know the ending and it's never good.

Definition Cynic: A person who believes that only selfishness motivates human actions and who disbelieves in or minimizes selfless acts or disinterested points of view.

That pretty well sums it up. You think?

Just Another Decision On The Lifeguard Building. Will It Ever End?

Laguna Beach: Lifeguard HqtrsIt's been going on for over a decade and we still can't come to a decision on the Lifeguard headquarters. At tonight's council meeting there will be on view conceptual designs of two different options for construction of a one-story lifeguard headquarters with a basement, either of which would accommodate lifeguard operations.

Will the council ever get some backbone and grant the lifeguards what they have long deserved?

Something For Everyone At Tonights Council Meeting

Laguna Beach: Fog BankTake a quick look at the agenda for tonight's council meeting and I bet there's something on the list that will interest you. The trick is to get to the meeting JUST before they take up that item of special interest to you otherwise you will be sitting in those council chambers far longer than any sane person should.
