Skimboard Competition Today And Sunday At Aliso Beach
33rd annual Victoria Skimboards World Championship of Skimboarding will be today and Sunday. There has been a time change. Victoria skimboards website states:
Originally Victoria Skimboards planned on starting the event at 9am on Satruday morning but due to swell and tides we are pushing the start time to 8am. Please check the heat schedule to see what time your age group will run as we are trying to keep to a tight schedule.Water Temp: 64

The Tournament is really just a way to promote/increase Victoria Skimboards sales. The question I've always asked VS is this: Why are you holding it at the outlet of one of the most highly contaminated creeks in the USA? These competitors are immersing themselves (hence absorbing through their skin) and swallowing polluted urban runoff rife with carcinogens all in the name of a few $$$ and some ink. Does the notoriety compensate for the health impacts? And what kind of subliminal message does this send to other recreational users of Aliso? Hey, Aliso, yeah it is OK, I haven't popped out a tentacle or grown a 3rd eye YET. I just get chronic eye, ear, nose & throat infections, flu like symptoms, maybe a little flesh-eating bacteria thrown in as condiments. All so that VS can make a few more $$$, pretend they're a great tradition for locals. This is snake oil, but don't look for it to change. VS customers and the locally duped media aren't known for their cerebral side. What a dirty, ugly little secret. Just like the Creek.
